NYU Celebrates John McGahern

NYU's Ireland House rings out the month of March with a two-night celebration of the life of the late John McGahern, one year after his death. On Thursday, March 29, New York journalist and author Pete Hamill will lead a panel discussion about the life and work of the Irish author who died last spring. Participating in the panel will be Irish journalist Joe Kennedy of the Irish Independent, who was a life-long friend of McGahern, and Belinda McKeon, an Irish writer who is currently taking her MFA at Columbia University and teacher in the undergraduate writing program.

A reception will follow at Ireland House. Admission is free to members of Ireland House and the NYU community; $10 to all others.

Friday night, March 30, the conference moves to the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Film Center, 36 East 8th Street, between Broadway and University Place, where Pete Hamill will introduce the hour-long film, "John McGahern: A Private World," winner of the 2005 Irish Film and Television Award for Best Documentary. Doors will open at 7pm. Introduction will commence at 7:30pm. No reception afterwards. Free and open to the public. Seating is limited. Cantor Film Center is located near Glucksman Ireland House NYU at 36 East 8th Street, between Broadway and University Place.
